“Seattle Public Utilities is honored to accept AMWA’s Sustainable Water Utility Management Award. It’s wonderful to be recognized for our long history and commitment to sustainable financial management, environmental stewardship, and delivering equitable essential services to 1.6 million people in the Puget Sound region,” said Andrew Lee, General Manager and CEO of Seattle Public Utilities. “Our approach is rooted in partnership with our customers, communities, and employees, and in the belief that thoughtful stewardship today shapes healthier, more resilient communities tomorrow. We’re proud to share this award with everyone who helps us carry out our mission every day.”

SPU operates the largest water utility in the Pacific Northwest, providing Seattle Water to 1.6 million people across Seattle and the region. Seattle Water comes from the Cedar River and South Fork Tolt River watersheds —100,000 acres of protected forest that produce some of the cleanest drinking water in the nation. With 1,900 miles of pipeline and rigorous 24/7 monitoring, SPU consistently delivers high-quality drinking water that meets or exceeds all regulations.

SPU leads regional salmon recovery efforts, advances conservation programs that have significantly reduced regional water use for decades and incorporates climate science into water supply planning to ensure reliable water for future generations. Protecting pristine mountain watersheds and investing in resilient infrastructure are core to our sustainability mission.

From protecting mountain watersheds to providing equitable essential services, this award recognizes the collective work of SPU’s employees, partners, and customers. We are honored to receive it and remain committed to building a healthy, resilient future for our region.
